Relations with Russia

"Russia and Lithuania try to soften the tension" claim LNK headlines on Thursday, March 31st. The foreign affairs ministers of the two countries started acting - Lithuanian minister Antanas Valionis contacted Sergey Lavrov and agreed about a meeting in Moscow in a week.

The tension hasn't stifled since President Valdas Adamkus decided not to go to Moscow for the 9th of May celebrations. It has been intensified by undiplomatic statements of Russian Federation's Ambassador to Lithuania Boris Cepov, when he declared that Lithuania is not a country but a rally of scandal fanciers.

It is believed that the "diplomatic pause" between Lithuania and Russia should end after the meeting of the ministers in Moscow next week. Meanwhile, their newt meeting in Vilnius is already planned for the end of April.
